Changing British Attitudes Caused Consequences

The changing of position by the British caused conflict between the Arabs and Zionists. Their change of statements from one agreement to the next gave ideas to the different parties caused When the British made the immigration cap to help their relationship with the Arabs they caused the Jews to revolt and fight for their rights to have a home land. This anger caused by the limitation was a consequence. The changing of position by the British in the second document was that they now blamed the Arabs for the violence but they suspended the Jewish immigration. A year later this was revoked . This changing caused the citizens to become enraged. The Arabs now became enraged and began to boycott, another consequence. In the third paper the consequence was that the Jews stopped cooperating with the British mandates.

O- This document was written by the Ad Hoc Committee on September 29^th 1947 in the middle east.

P- this document was created to show the reaction of the Arab higher committee to the question of Palestine Arab. In it a description of Husseini three claims disproving the Jews claim to Palestine The first was that the Ashkenazim had no claim since their ancestors were never in Israel, and the Sephardi Jews don’t believe in Zionism. The second claim was that the religious claim held by the Zionists had no more validity the that of the Arabs and Christians also it gave no power over the secular world. The third claim was The British had no right or power to give Palestine away in the Balfour declaration because they did not conquer Palestine they teamed up with them to free Palestine

V- This source is a primary source it is a valuable because it gives an example of the Arab feelings and in a straight forward manner listing why the Jewish claim had no validity. This description of how the Arabs felt and their claim against it made this document more useful then the other documents.

L- This document is valid up to the point where I look to understand the Jewish point of view towards Unscop’s Proposals . In this document only the Arab point of view is given. This document can be verified by exploring the ideas given by Husseini for why the Jews had no claim to Palestine.

The responsibilities of the World Community and how they dealt with refugees

The responsibilities that the international community had to those who survived the holocaust was to find a place for them to go in which they would not experience the antisemitism that they dealt with in the death camps. They had to find them and make a homeland for them. The world agreed with this and they dealt with the refugees by eventually creating and giving the Jews the right to make a home land in Palestine. They did this because they felt obligated to those who survived because it was partially there fault for not stopping Hitler and the Germans. In the end the world community partitioned Palestine and gave the Jews the majority of the land.

The Social Obstacles That Prevented Arabs from Articulating Their Rights and Interests in Palestine During the Interwar Period

The obstacles the Arabs faced during the inter war period were due to the mandated system imposed by the British. The British were determined to help the Zionist establish a home land in Palestine. Some other problems the Arabs faced were their lack of organization. This resulted in many leaders who fought for many different things rather than a united group. Another problem the Arabs faced was the British military force that helped keep the divide between the Arabs and others. This led to there not being enough schools, and they were run by Arabs not the British, so the literacy rate to fall behind that of the other groups including the Jews. Fighting between the two most powerful families caused a rift that kept the Arabs divided when it came to politics. The lack of organization and the weak leadership allowed people who rather focus on the hatred they have for the British and Jews to come to power. During the interwar years Strikes and Murders occurred due to this type of leadership this resulted in a focus of hatred which helped facilitate a growing difference in power between the different groups in Palestine.

Hussein-McMathon Correspondence, the Sykes-Piscot Agreement and the Balfour Declaration

Today I Justin Greenberg have discoverd three documents that the government has tried to coverup. They are Hussein-McMathon Correspondence, the Sykes-Piscot Agreement and the Balfour Declaration. Each has a different meaning and affect of on our cause for the creation of a jewish homeland. The McMathon correspondence was greatly dentremental to our cause. It was between the leader of Mecca and the British. This correspondence gave the Arabs autonomy for their help in defeating the Ottomans. This would destroy our chances at using Palistine as a homeland. The second is the Balfour Declaration. This document is the greatest form of conformation by the british government to support and protect our people and homeland. It is between the British and the One of the heads of a great zionist organization. In it the british promised us support in creating a home land for our people. They also promised us that if we move to Palistine we would be allowed to keep our old citizenship. The third document is the Sykes-Piscot Agreement. This agreement would be detrimential to our cause. In it agreed to split the land betweeen the British and French. also a small amount of land went to the Arabs. this small peiece of land was were we wanted to create our home land. In each of these documents the British promise different people different things. I truley hope the Balfour declaration expressed their true feelings.

What Azury means by “Liberal” and how it compares to my understanding of “Liberal”

Azury’s term “liberal”, by his definition means open and free. He refers to this when he speaks about a separation of church and state. He also speaks about freedom of religion and equality of all citizens. My understanding of the term is that it means open and free. Our understandings of the term are similar and his belief of separation of church and state and equality is a very democratic ideal. In my understanding Democratic and freedom are synonyms.

Origin: it was created in 1905 in paris france. the context it was written was in a mannor to explain how an arab nation not under egypt should be created

Purpose: in this article the autor is explaing why and how an arab state should be created. in this he tells the reader that the boundaries of the arab state he wants to create should be between the tigres and eurphrates and the suez ithmus, he also explains that there will be a seperation of church and state is needed. this is to promote the creation of an arab nation seperate of the ottoman empire.

Value: this source is valuable in comparison to other sources. this is a primary source. what makes this source so valuable is that it is from a creditited author and it lays out a plan for how and where his suggested contry be. also it has supporting reasons for why this country should be created in this mannor.

Limitation: this article stops being useful to when i reject the idea of having an arab nation set up. in the document it only explains why and how the arab nation should be set up not why it should come into being. another reason for its limitation is that it suggest that his hypothetical religious leader will acctually have control over all muslim people. this is absurd that all people would listen to this leader, total religious control ended after the dark ages. this document can be varified by looking up the author and the places and facts that he mentioned.

Nationalism had a large role in 19th century palistine. Those who had the idea of creating a jewish home land had the idea of isreali nationalism. These zionists nationalism caused a displacement to the arabs of palistine. The zionists decision to chose palistine as a homeland changed the role of nationalism in palistine. This nationalism was stemmed from antisemitism in europe. for the arabs nationalism was strengthened their beleif in seeing syria as the one they should pay alligence to because those who owned the land of palistine were of in the big cities. The responsibilities that imperial powers have to minority populations under suzerainty

The responibilities of the impearial powers should not change due to the size of the group of people. Minorities should not be granted any special treatment or allowed any different rights. the reason this should be true can be discoved when one looks back at hungarian history. The magyars the minority were given special treatment and this resulted in a mistreatment of the masses and an abuse of their rights. The rights that the imperial powers should give all people within their kingdom are basic human needs and some self governing powers. they should also enact rules so that no group can be persecuted.

Arab Isreali Conflict

What I understand about the arab-isreali conflict comes from what i know about the Balfour Declaration. I know that it declared Palistine as the national home of the jewish people. I beleive that those who were not jewish could see this as somthing that the british government should not decide. this would incite anger because this is taking my home away from me by an outside force and giving it to a people who has no more right to the land then myself and my people. I know this view is shared by the Arabs that currently live in the area that was palistine. I also know that the attemps to create peace have upto know failed.
